Sink Cutouts and Mountings
Topmount Sinks

  • Achieved simply by cutting a hole in the granite.
  • Require the least amount of work and therefore minimal cost.
  • Disadvantage is the "lip" of the bowl that sits above the granite making it difficult to wipe debris into the bowl.

  • Rebated Undermount Sinks

  • Achieved by cutting a rebated hole in the granite and then polishing the inside edges of the hole.
  • Results in a 12-15mm drop from the top of the granite to the sink.
  • Granite may require reinforcing with steel to maintain its structural integrity.
  • Look elegant and are the most preferred method for fitting sinks.
  • Require large amount of work and therefore greater cost.
  • Just wipe debris into the sink without dealing with a raised "lip" around the sink.

  • Undermount Sinks

  • Achieved by cutting a hole in the granite and then polishing the inside edges of the hole.
  • Results in a 30mm drop from the top of the granite to the sink.
  • Nice clean look.
  • Just wipe debris into the sink without dealing with a raised "lip" around the sink.
  • Butler Sinks

  • Becoming more popular.
  • Can be either Topmounted or Undermounted.
